Delete only .cache files and font.conf file in the font drawer and relaunch!

It might interest people to know that AROS is now getting their first 64-bit version of Odyssey, based on brand new development of Odyssey. Perhaps it could be interesting to look on the possibility of further develop Odyssey for AmigaOS4, based on these AROS sources?

I'm running this on AmigaOS 4.1FE in an emulator. It always keeps initializing the fonts on each startup and despite that, it doesn't seem to cache anything at all in the folders. Heck, when I delete the conf/font folder and restart, it doesn't even recreate it. What a shame.

Thanks for the information. I read about it. Yes, porting the latest WebKit would help a lot for future Amiga browser development. Odyssey is not bad. Can still use it in most relative Amiga situations without problems. Runs lighting fast on X5000, of course. Thanks again.

Great to see it is still being developed. Any plans for a new version in the pipeline? What can we expect to see of improvements and new features? I love the Amiga. Only want the best for it. That's why I care so much. Keep up the excellent work. Never be afraid to develop for the Amiga. There's only pride in it. Runs fast on my X5000!

Is there a way for Odyssey cache fonts? I'm sure the older ones did. But in this version it always loads the fonts. I had a play with it a while back downloading fonts (again). But couldn't remember what else is needed to cache the fonts.

@redfox
Sites like YouTube and other Google heavy-influenced sites are very resource-hungry and tend to change often, getting more and more complex. OS4 browsers like Odyssey and TimberWolf need to get this Hardware Acceleration support in place, and a rather completely updated WebKit, in order to deal with those complex sites.

Comment by: redfox (206.75.101.5)At: 25 Aug 2022, 03:21File version: 1.23r5
Other than the previously mentioned glitch, Odyssey seems to work ok on my system. YouTube and news websites seem to be the worst culprets.

I occasionally get a requester saying that Odyssey has not allocated memory.
Not sure if it gets smoked by javascript or if I am running out of memory.

It's very interesting to see how the rewritten Odyssey was redone. My I suggest the option to move most of the Odyssey operations to hardware acceleration? Saying that with Warp3D Nova/OpenGL ES stuffs, could possible try to make the graphic card use the Video RAM for more of the heavy net operations in Odyssey. Other than that, keep up the excellent work.

The new Odyssey 1.23r5 2022 release feels like a whole new, rewritten Odyssey, and I think it's actually is. Feels much more stable, it's quite fast and smooth, even on a SAM460ex. Excellent work, Kas1e! Keep it coming! Odyssey just got more modern!

Again it seems that YouTube is doing some changes of support for different browsers and this causes problem for Odyssey. It would now seem that Odyssey either has to be updated to meet the standards of 2020, or at least have new scripts that can handle sites like YouTube with full support as possible.

Comment by: HKvalhe (80.213.177.167)At: 02 May 2019, 16:56File version: 1.23r4
I'm not sure if this is due to the latest AmiSSL build, but I rather suspect the old Javascript in Odyssey Web Browser to have become more of a problem. As an example, when running Facebook even with default Javascript turnt on, Facebook runs unbearable slow in Odyssey and eats up a lot of memory. It would be better if this Javascript thing was replaced by the long awaited PPC-JIT implementation people talk about. At least, something clearly has to be done to improve this. This is all I know, based on own experience. All other internet sites run fast and smooth without problem, even on an AmigaOne 500 aka SAM460ex.

Comment by: HKvalhe (80.213.141.23)At: 02 Jul 2018, 20:58File version: 1.23r4
Have any heard anything more about a new version of Odyssey Web Browser for AmigaOS4, and what is the current status of the PPC-JIT implementation? The old Javascript support in Odyssey Web Browser 1.23r4 is getting more and more of a problem in sites like Facebook. Have to simply DISABLE Javascript support when using Facebook.

Comment by: HKvalhe (80.213.141.23)At: 26 Jun 2018, 01:17File version: 1.23r4
More and more of the outdated Javascript support in Odyssey is now causing problems, especially in Facebook, even the mobile site of Facebook. Odyssey Web Browser needs a great update...again. That's the only solution, and it's a pretty obvious solution. It has to be done...Also hope to see this PPC JIT implementation that is so important...

Comment by: HKvalhe (80.213.141.23)At: 06 Jun 2018, 14:35File version: 1.23r4
Seeing that sites like Facebook have undergone many important changes, I happen to notice that the outdated Javascript support in Odyssey causes some minor problems these days. For instance, at least in the fast mobile site version of Facebook, the Check-In-Place function doesn't work anymore. This is due to the outdated Javascript.

I hope the new, long-expected PPC JIT implementation for Odyssey is coming soon, and that Odyssey Web Browser can get a new update again. Like version 1.25 or 1.26. It's important to have a fully up-to-date browser on the Amiga, if we are to enjoy surfing
easily on the Amiga, and have access to all the stuffs the sites provide for us. This cannot be said enough. I understand and respect things take time, but the last updated version of Odyssey was back in 2013. We are now into 2018. So yes, 5 years have passed without a new version of Odyssey, and awaiting the PPC JIT implementation as well...I hope we all agree that these things are very important, and getting more and more important as every day passes...

Comment by: HKvalhe (80.213.1.11)At: 10 Feb 2017, 17:09File version: 1.23r4
With AmiSSL V4, there is a problem when trying to download stuffs. Instead of just choosing DESTINATION and the file once for download, you have to click both the file and the DESTINATION TWICE, to make them work.

Please update Odyssey to become compatibile with the new AmiSSL V4, and implement the PPC JIT everybody talks about. Otherwise, Odyssey works as supposed to.

Comment by: HKvalhe (80.212.45.180)At: 18 Sep 2016, 15:48File version: 1.23r4
Is it possible to update some components of latest Odyssey to work better with the changes that are done with Facebook? It seems that Facebook has undergone a lot of changes and improvements, including a new multi-image uploader that doesn't work so well in Odyssey, unless you run the MOBILE version of Facebook.

I read rumours about port of a PPC JIT engine for Webkit-based browsers. Could such port to Odyssey help improve it? Do we need a whole new version of Odyssey to make use of more modern-updated sites like Facebook, with all of its' new features? Just asking...

Other than the issue with the updated Facebook, Odyssey works just fine for all other general use, AFAIK...

Comment by: HKvalhe (80.212.45.180)At: 24 Aug 2016, 18:41File version: 1.23r4
New Odyssey 1.23r4 is great in most ways, but today as of 24th of August 2016, there is a problem uploading photos into Facebook from Odyssey. Usually, you should get the option of uploading the photos one-by-one (Amiga has no Flash support, and focus is more on HTML5), but the option of single upload of photos didn't show up anymore. Please fix this...

By setting fonts to dejavu sans, it now starts instantly again.

I also set prefs/fonts to cache fonts and i rebuilt the font cache. :-)

Odyssey have always opened with "loading interface", while showing the fonts being loaded

For a few days ago, i did a clean install OS, and everything. Then when i started Odysey, it started INSTANTLY.

For some reason, i reinstalled everything again on an SSD, but now, it's back to the 7 second loadscreen.

what did i do? :-P

Is it possible to update Odyssey to handle the new video features from AmigaOS 4.1 Final, as well as RadeonHD 2.4 drivers? The YUV2 Composite video feature that the new MPlayer can use? I'm sure the HTML5 player intergrated in Odyssey Web Browser can be improved to allow such smooth playback. As well as improving overall performance, noticeable when visiting sites like that of YouTube, and the possibility to finally log into sites like Blogger.com and your YourTube account again. This was not possible as it still stands, due to some changes i believe Google/YouTube did.

Other than that, Odyssey runs quite fine in FE with latest version.

Several Amiga Users and myself have found out that Google has changed some routines for logging into sites like Blogger and YouTube with Google+ account. Odyssey can't no longer log into Blogger or YouTube. Only on TimberWolf.

Odyssey 1.24 for MorphOS is the version that AmigaOS4 would need to be fully up to 2014 level with browsing. I hope we will see version 1.24. Perhaps around summer or a little later, if possible?

Comment by: HKvalhe (80.213.142.202)At: 06 Jun 2014, 23:15File version: 1.23r3
This might be a little out of the blue, but today (Thursday 6th of June 2014) i suddenly experienced a problem to log into Blogger.com and YouTube.com in native Odyssey spoof mode. Earlier, this was always possible. These 2 sites are syncronized with my Google+ account, sharing the same login. I appeared into Google+ with my account, but couldn't log into neither Blogger or YouTube, and i haven't changed anything in Odyssey since third version of 1.23 was released.

In Blogger.com, after typing in my Google+ account and log into Google+, it tries to log me into the blog site, but fails with an error message.

In YouTube, a weird error message says there is a problem with the browser in the way that YouTube thinks the browser is outdated, or simply doesn't recognize it.

What to do? Any suggestions? I have scripts like YouTube Center.js

Any help is good help.

Always great to see Odyssey updated, but one change that appeared in the previous update was the way bookmarks were handled. Previously, bookmarks would appeared at whatever position the cursor was at. Now, they always appear at the very bottom.

Comment by: marko (83.183.213.4)At: 08 May 2014, 02:20File version: 1.23r3
@kas1e

Maybe you could add an extversion cookie with a release number, like
$EXTVER: Odyssey Web Browser 1.23r3 (05.05.2014)

and of course keep the normal version cookie
$VER: Odyssey Web Browser 1.23 (25.12.2013)
as it is.

And then (soon if not later) that release number could be read with Extversion from OpenAmiga.org. :)

@Lyle
Version is the same 1.23, all those "revisions" its only for os4. So i only update it and reupload there, and only name it as "r", just so ppls know its new version. But inside everything 1.23 as it should be.

It may worth to change in about, but then will need to change it everywhere (many parts) and to avoid any problems with users scripts/etc which done for morphos and can be used on os4, and which may check "1.23" exactly, i avoid to change versioning in the binary directly.

I checked the "about" and the original file download, no mention of

Like the addition of notifications for downloads, is it possible to add an option to hide downloads window?

I've found the options under view (navigation, etc) don't save for next session? Not a new 'issue' with this release. Is it possible to save them?

Thanks for the update!

r3 of Odyssey 1.23 is certainly a great welcome, powerful update with more and new features! Thank you so much for doing this, Kas1e, and i do mean it. Odyssey is my standard and best browser on my Amiga system, and every day browser :)

May i suggest the possibility of having AmiUpdate to update Odyssey in the future, and even installing that update if the user choose to, still remembering all settings, even bookmarks? It would be very cool if Odyssey in the future could be updated and installed from AmiUpdate as well :)

Latest Odyssey works perfectly here and it FLIES just like that! Thanks again! :)

At last I can use Odyssey to play MP3 files! I just found out that IBrowse dirverting to TuneNet was broken and a bit crass.

However there are some issues. The readme is broken, it wants CodePad.

And that :Auncher is still there to confuse people. ;-)

But I wonder, how easy is it to transfer settings from MUI-OWB into Odyssey? I was afraid to replace OWB with it but would like to do so and keep all my settings. Import manager? :-)

Odyssey remembered every earlier settings i had, and setting up bookmarks as i was able to use the BookmarkTool for it, worked seamlessy! The browser is fast, stable and everything! Finally a true HTML5 browser for Amiga! Now surfing on Amiga is fun!

Keep up the excellent work! Donation of $20 to Kas1e was done by me nearly a week ago.

Hi Djrikki,
I don't know if your problem of corrupted fonts is resolved.
I had a similar problem due to the presence of the fonts downloaded by owb.
If they are already in an another directory ( fonts:_truetype for me), delete them in the new directory. That resolved my problem.
With this, I only use one directory for my fonts.
I hope that this message will help you.
